APRIL IS NATIONAL AUTISM AWARENESS MONTH

What is autism? Autism makes up a multitude of neurologic developmental disorders that affect a child's social & communicative abilities. The exact cause of autism is relatively unknown. It is usually diagnosed by age 6. Some have problems with hearing, while others may have vision problems.  The child may have an intellectual disability or a sensory integration disorder. It is important, however, to distinguish whether the child's problem is truly an autistic disorder or a medical condition.
If you would like to become involved, contact the local Autism Society Chapter. If you feel your child may be delayed socially or intellectually, contact your pediatrician.
